Summer fun, done differently

It's summer time! Are you already running out of ways to keep your kids occupied? Did you know that your public library offers more than just book check outs? The library offers fun and educational programs for kids and adults throughout the year, particularly during the summer months. When school is out, it is important to ensure that our kids are still given opportunities to learn and expand their knowledge while using the tools and skills they gained throughout the school year. For those on a budget, we recommend the following free programs offered throughout the Brevard County Library System, be sure to check out their website to find out which branch is hosting each event.

· Dr. Dan's Magic Show, Monday June 20 at 11am or 12pm

· Family Yoga, Tuesday June 21 at 2pm or 3pm

· Table Top Games, Thursday June 30 at 2pm or 3pm

· Adult & Teen Reading Bingo, Friday July 1 at 9am or 5pm

· Free Friday Movie: Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Friday July 1 at 3pm or 5pm

· TEEN Battle of the Books, Monday July 18 at 6pm or 7pm

The library card benefits don't end there! This summer, students 18 and under can participate in the Space Coast Area Transit's Read-To-Ride program by presenting their library card.

"Read-To-Ride emphasizes the importance of using Brevard County Libraries as a resource to enhance reading skills during the summer months. It also teaches students how to use the transit system allowing them to ride the bus for free to the library, beach, mall, and many other locations throughout the summer" said Jim Liesenfelt, director of Space Coast Area Transit.

Obtaining a library card with the Brevard County Library system is easy, all you need is proof of residency in Brevard county. Acceptable proof of residency includes a drivers license, deed, lease, or voter registration card among other documents
